New Delhi: In an incident that shows courage knows no bounds, BJP leader Devendra Inani thwarted a thief trying to steal from him onboard a train. Inani was going to Haridwar with his family to immerse the ashes of his late mother and three other relatives.
In the early hours of July 21, Inani showed his bravery by foiling the theft attempt. He had booked the train tickets for Haridwar about a month ago to immerse the ashes of his late mother, Ramkanya Inani, who passed away on April 8 when she was 85 years old.
Inani, along with eight family members, boarded the train from Indore's Laxmibai Nagar station on July 20 night. When the train was between Morena and Agra Cantt stations, a man entered the S-2 coach of Inani's family at around 4 am from the S-4 coach. He tried to steal Inani's bag that had the ashes and escape. However, the BJP leader woke up on time and managed to catch the thief red-handed. The bag not only had the ashes of his mother but also those of three other relatives.
The accused was thrashed by other passengers. When they began to search, the passengers found two empty purses in the washroom, and the accused reportedly stole the mobile phone of one passenger out of the train. The alleged thief is reportedly a resident of Gwalior, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) took him in at Agra Cantt. The police are probing his identity and previous criminal records.
Inani said that the person who lost his mobile phone had to stay back and lodge the FIR. He reached Haridwar with his family on Monday. On the next day, he performed the rites.
