Kolkata: Although Dev, the superstar actor of Tollywood and a TMC MP, was seen on stage on Monday, July 21, on the occasion of the party's annual Martyrs' Day rally in West Bengal, he was not playing an active role.
It is learnt that Dev was in Scotland for the shooting of his film. From there, he went straight to Kolkata on Monday and reached Dharmatala. Within 24 hours of that meeting, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has raised questions about Dev's political role and his work as an MP.
On Monday, Ghosh addressed a meeting in Kharagpur where he attacked the TMC and claimed that the party will be removed from power in the 2026 state Assembly elections. On Tuesday morning, Ghosh criticised Dev while addressing reporters. He questioned why the TMC MP had not visited Ghatal even once, despite the heavy floods, and demanded the resignation of the actor.
Before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Dev had said that he wanted to quit politics. He also expressed disappointment over the lack of implementation of the Ghatal Master Plan. Later, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, standing in front of Dev, assured that she would implement the master plan herself without waiting for the Centre.
Dilip Ghosh said, "Dev is a good person. But what will happen to such a good person! A useless person. Under whose pressure is he doing politics? Why are you deceiving the people of Ghatal again and again? If you have the courage, resign. The people of Midnapore have backbone, they don't play dumb."
Dilip claims that Dev is being blackmailed. He claimed that if Dev does not contest the elections, his films would be stopped, and the production of his projects would be stopped. Hence, Dev has to contest the elections. Ghosh also commented that the fact that Dev was summoned to the ED office in the cow smuggling case is a conspiracy by TMC. He advised Dev, "Don't bow down to thieves." So far, no response has been received from the Trinamool MP in this regard.
