Retired BMC official duped of Rs 16.5 lakh in ‘digital arrest’ cyber fraud

A 75-year-old retired Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official from Andheri East was allegedly duped of Rs 16.50 lakh by cyber fraudsters posing as officers of the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the National Investigation Agency. The scammers placed him under a so-called "digital arrest”, falsely linking him to a Delhi bomb blast case, and extorted money in the name of verification. Police have registered a case and begun investigations.

Nuh fast-track court sentences man to 10 years’ jail for kidnapping, raping minor

A Fast Track Special Court under the POCSO Act in Nuh district has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2022. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 33,000, with an additional jail term in case of default. The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan following a trial based on evidence collected by the police.

Ranchi Police return 93 lost, stolen mobile phones to owners

Ranchi Police on Wednesday returned 93 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners under a special drive titled ‘Operation Muskan’. SC seeks action plans on CAQM measures to curb Delhi-NCR pollution

The Supreme Court has directed the Centre, Delhi government and other stakeholders to submit action plans within four weeks to implement CAQM’s 15 long-term measures to improve Delhi-NCR’s worsening AQI. The court refused to entertain objections, stressed immediate execution, and criticised CAQM for delays and lack of urgency, noting the pollution crisis has become an annual problem requiring time-bound, practical solutions.

Cross-border illegal arms module busted

Punjab Police on Wednesday said it has unearthed a cross-border illegal arms module linked to Pakistan-based smugglers with the arrest of two persons. The Amritsar Commissionerate Police also recovered six sophisticated pistols (two Glock, four .30 bore) along with two cartridges, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

Leopard rescued from sweet shop in Daman

A leopard was rescued after an arduous eight-hour operation from a sweet shop in the Nani Daman area here on Tuesday, forest officials said.The Forest Department was informed around 11.30 am that the leopard had entered the shop, following which police and forest officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Harshraj Wathore told reporters.

Ramayana manuscript gifted to Ayodhya's Ram Katha museum

A rare 233-year-old Sanskrit manuscript of Valmiki's Ramayana has been gifted to the Ram Katha museum in Ayodhya, the Culture Ministry said on Tuesday. In a landmark cultural handover, Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of the Central Sanskrit University, presented the manuscript of the Valmikiramayanam (with the Tattvadipikatika) to Nripendra Misra, Chairman of the Executive Council of Prime Ministers Museum and Library, it said.
