IIT Kharagpur Placement 2026: Phase 1 records highest offer of Rs 2.44 crore; over 1,500 job offers

IIT Kharagpur phase 1 placement witnessed the highest CTC package offer standing at Rs 2.44 crore. A total of 1,501 job offers were made during phase 1 of the placement session. The placement drive was conducted between December 1, 2025, to January 3, 2026.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur had a record breaking phase 1 placement season with the highest cost-to-company (CTC) package offer standing at Rs 2.44 crore. As per an official statement, a total of 1,501 job offers were made during phase 1 of the placement session.

The IIT Kharagpur phase 1 placement drive was conducted between December 1, 2025, to January 3, 2026. The figure includes 457 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and 15 international offers.

Earlier in the session, the institute had announced a major achievement when it crossed 1,000 job offers in a single day. Highlighting the moment, the IIT Kharagpur's statement stated, 'A historic milestone was achieved on day two of placement at 8 AM when the institute crossed 1,000 job offers.' This figure was confirmed after reviewing data from the entire phase 1 placement period.

The placement drive attracted several well-known companies from India and abroad. Major recruiters included Apple, Tesla, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, Walmart, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, JP Morgan Chase, Accenture, and Samsung Korea among many others. Core and manufacturing sector firms such as Airbus, Boeing, Mercedes, Siemens, Caterpillar, ExxonMobil, L&T Finance, and Tata Group also took part.

Despite uncertainty around US visa policies, American companies continued to show a strong interest in hiring students from IIT Kharagpur.

Commenting on the outcome, Chairperson of the Career Development Centre, Prof Sanjay Gupta said, 'The exceptional outcomes of the placement season underscore the strength of our collaborative model, despite the challenges in the job market.'

The phase 1 placements conducted over a month saw participation from leading Indian and international companies across multiple sectors. From technology and finance to core engineering and manufacturing, recruiters offered roles to students from diverse academic backgrounds. The phase 2 of the IIT Kharagpur placement session 2025–26 started on January 16.
