Police have arrested more than 15 people during protest at India Gate
A group of youth was protesting against the government at India Gate on Sunday evening over the increasing pollution and toxic air in Delhi. However, a slogan was raised which is now taking the shape of a controversy. The youth chanted slogans of "Long live Naxalite commander Madvi Hidma." Around 50-60 protesters entered India Gate. New Delhi DCP Devesh Mahala informed them that India Gate is not a designated protest site. If they wanted to protest, they had to follow the correct procedure and apply for permission at Jantar Mantar. However, they refused and broke through the barricades, blocking the main road inside the C-Hexagon. Chili powder was reportedly used against the police and they have arrested more than 15 people.
Delhi chokes on high AQI yet again
Delhi-NCR is facing severe pollution levels this winter season. The AQI in Delhi was recorded at Anand Vihar, where it had reached 441 at 7 this morning. Pollution is also impacting neighbouring Ghaziabad and Noida. While Noida recorded an AQI of 396, in Ghaziabad it was 432. The air quality continues to be poor despite GRAP-3 measures being enforced by the government. Read more here
‘Border may change, Sindh may return to India’: Rajnath amid Indo-Pak tensions
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that Sindh, the province which is part of Pakistan, may return to India again. Quoting Former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, he added that Sindh will always be a part of India civilisationally. The province became part of Pakistan after the partition in 1947. Read more here
