New Delhi: The political arena in Karnataka is set for a major shift as Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that he may not be able to hold the position permanently. Shivakumar, one of the key contenders for the Chief Minister’s post, has been serving in his current role for nearly six years.

Speaking at a press conference, the Deputy CM said that his presence in an influential position is not significant. He also shared his vision of establishing at least 100 Congress offices during his tenure.

Will be at the frontline

In his speech, he reiterated that he cannot hold the post permanently. “Others should be given an opportunity. But I will be in the leadership. Don’t worry, I will be at the frontline,” he added.

During the event, Shivakumar urged Congress workers to consistently work for the party with confidence. “I am confident the Congress will come back to power in Karnataka. Don’t lose hope. We should all live with hope and continue working. We will get power, don’t worry. But to achieve it, we must work hard,” he said.

Earlier, describing himself as a “loyal soldier” of the party, Shivakumar stated that he would continue as KPCC chief for as long as the leadership wanted him to remain in the role.

His remarks come amid speculation over a change in the chief ministerial post as the Congress government reaches the halfway mark of its five-year term this month.

The 'November revolution'

Reports suggest a possible power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, with claims that Shivakumar would take over as Chief Minister after 2.5 years of Congress rule — a period some have termed the “November revolution.”

Questions have also been raised about the KPCC leadership. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said in 2023 that Shivakumar would remain KPCC President until the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi and former Minister K.N. Rajanna, both considered close to Siddaramaiah, have openly expressed interest in the post, according to PTI.
