Germany has experienced its first significant snowfall of the season, with freezing temperatures sweeping across the nation. Citizens were quick to embrace the sudden winter conditions, with reports from the Feldberg describing a "Winter Wonderland." A dog-walking group expressed their delight, while another family travelled to witness the snow firsthand.
However, the picturesque scene is accompanied by a severe cold snap. Meteorologist Karsten Brandt from Donnerwetter.de explained that the low-pressure system Taleb has ushered in icy polar air to Europe, contrasting sharply with the subtropical warmth of the previous week.
Temperatures are plummeting, with forecasts of -6 to -9 degrees Celsius on Friday and -10 degrees Celsius in parts of Germany by Saturday morning. Specific areas like Cologne, Hanover, and Hamburgs outskirts are also expected to see sub-zero temperatures.
Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution on motorways, particularly the A3 and A61, as many may still be on summer tyres and unprepared for the rapid onset of winter weather and up to 15 centimetres of new snow in low mountain ranges.
