Congress Distances Itself from Shashi Tharoors Praise for L.K. Advani
The Congress party has officially distanced itself from senior leader Shashi Tharoor’s recent birthday wishes for veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) figure L.K. Advani. Tharoor had lauded Advani as a "true statesman" with a substantial record of public service, arguing that it was unjust to define him solely by the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Responding to Tharoor’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera stated that Tharoor’s opinions were his own and did not represent the party’s official stance. Khera, however, underscored that Tharoor's liberty to express his views highlighted the Congresss commitment to democratic principles.
L.K. Advani, who was awarded the Bharat Ratna this year, has been a pivotal force in shaping modern Indian politics and notably led the historic Rath Yatra in 1990, a significant event for the BJP. This clarification underscores the delicate balance within the Congress party regarding statements concerning political adversaries.
