Investigators said that it was Muzammil who procured a Russian assault rifle worth Rs 5 lakh, which was recovered from a locker of a hospital in Jammu and Kashmir. The locker from where the weapon was recovered belonged to Dr Abdeel.

Muzammil purchased the weapon from a person known to Dr Shaheen who is also under arrest. The recovery of the weapon became the breakthrough in this case, and later police went on to recover 2,900 kilograms of explosives from different locations in Faridabad.

During the Faridabad raids, police had also recovered another Russian-origin rifle, an AK Krinkov, along with a Chinese star pistol and a Beretta pistol. The group also bought a deep freezer to store the explosives, which has now been recovered.

According to a report in Times of India, which quoted the officials involved in the investigations, Dr Shaheen arranged for the Russian assault rifles through people known to her. She reportedly held discreet negotiations with sellers of weapons and also arranged for the deep freezer. The negotiations were done on Dr Umar's request and Dr Muzammil bought the weapons.

The group also managed to raise Rs 26 lakh through various sources. The money was mostly raised through Dr Shaheen's contact.

The freezer was used to store chemicals which needed to be stored at a particular temperature and they were to be then used in the improvised explosive devices, said investigators.

The material recovered is now being examined to determine what exactly it is. The investigators found that Umar was the one involved in making bombs. He had read up about how to assemble the bombs online and was being directed by a Turkey based handler.
