Russian Aerobatic Team pays heartfelt tribute to deceased IAF pilot at Dubai Air Show | Watch video

New Delhi: Two days after o Wing Commander Namansh Syal lost his life after his Tejas fighter jet crashed during a display at Dubai Air Show, the Russian Knights aerobatic team paid a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot.

The formation team from Russia dedicated its full routine to the IAF pilot. Speaking after their performance, the Russian Knights aerobatic team said that the last minute of the crash was “impossible to describe." He added that the team decided to continue with the show in honour of the late pilot.

Meanwhile, his mortal remains were taken to his native village in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. The tragedy took place on Friday, when the Tejas (indigenous Light Combat Aircraft), he was piloting went down during a demonstration. The fighter jet was reported to have lost height when it was performing a low-level negative-G manoeuvre. Within seconds, it plunged into the ground.

Soon after the incident, a thick black smoke was seen over Al Maktoum International Airport as stunned onlookers watched the accident in shock. Wing Commander Syal was the only occupant of the aircraft.

IAF pilot had taken off for an eight-minute display

The IAF officer was in his 30s and hailed from Himachal Pradesh. Before the accident, he took off for the eight-minute display when the crash took place at 3:40 PM (IST). He could not be saved even after an immediate medical response.

This was the second major accident involving Tejas in the last two years. In March last year, another Tejas crashed in Jaisalmer while it was returning from the tri-services exercise ‘Bharat Shakti’. It was the first crash of the homegrown fighter since its first flight in 2001.
