DGCA orders 5% IndiGo flight reduction. What it means? Who will benefit

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a significant reduction in IndiGo's daily flight schedule, cutting approximately 5% of its operations, which translates to about 110 flights per day. This crucial decision by the regulatory body follows a period of operational challenges and frequent flight cancellations experienced by IndiGo, prompting intervention from the Centre. IndiGo currently maintains an extensive network, operating approximately 2,200 flights daily.

The DGCA's action is a direct response to IndiGo's inability to consistently operate its approved flight schedule, particularly highlighted in October and November 2025. Investigations by the DGCA revealed that despite being approved for an increased winter schedule of 64,346 flights in November 2025, IndiGo only managed to operate 59,438 flights, resulting in 951 cancellations for that month alone.

The airline was reportedly given permission to increase its schedule for winter 2025, anticipating 403 aircraft. However, in reality, it could only operate 339 aircraft in October and 444 in November.
