New Delhi: The Election Commission has scheduled a meeting on Friday, with a 10-member delegation of the Trinamool Congress. The meeting comes amid the ongoing protests regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 9 states and Union Territories. Earlier the EC had written a letter to the TMC, accepting its request for a meeting on the matter.

The TMC delegation will include Derek O'Brien, Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra, Saket Gokhale and other senior leaders. The meeting comes after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote to Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar highlighting, what she described as "to disturbing" yet "urgent" situation regarding election preparation in the state.

CM Banerjee lambasted the BJP on Tuesday over the SIR exercise. She said "Nobody can throw out electors in West Bengal." The SIR issue in fact has become a major bone of contention between the ruling BJP and the Opposition. Most parties, very much like the TMC, have criticised the entire exercise and even called it a 'fraud'.
