Good news for commuters: RVNL, Kolkata Metro, and Nepal Consulate sign agreement for exchange of land

As per the agreement between both sides, the Consulate General of Nepal, which owns 409.53 sq. metres of land, will exchange the same with 526.34 sq. metres land of the Kolkata Metro.

Kolkata: In good news for lakhs of commuters across Kolkata, the administration has resolved the hurdle in the construction of the Purple Line, which connects Joka and Park Street. The same was resolved after Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange land parcels. Consulate General of Nepal

As per the agreement between both sides, the Consulate General of Nepal, which owns 409.53 sq. metres of land, will exchange the same with 526.34 sq. metres land of the Kolkata Metro. With this, the construction of ramp between the Kidderpore and Mominpur for Mominpur-Esplanade will start soon.

Speaking to news agency PTI, an official said that this land was required urgently for the construction of the ramp between Kidderpore and Mominpore . He added a number of meetings took place in last three years between the Ministry of External Affairs, Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Metro Railway, and RVNL in Kathmandu, New Delhi, and Kolkata for the exchange of land.

"After multiple rounds of discussions, the Nepal government concurred to exchange this parcel of land," he added further. The signing of the agreement took place at at RVNL Model Room at the Victoria station. Among those who were present during the agreement were Consul General of Nepal, Kolkata, Jhakka Prasad Acharya, and senior officials of Kolkata Metro, RVNL, and MEA.

Construction on Park Street station started last year

Notably, the construction of the new Park Street Metro station on the Purple line had started last year with the setting up of the diaphragm wall, which was announced by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL). The line was designed to span 14 kilometers from Joka to the Esplanade area of Kolkata,
