Gujarat shocker: Man murders his bride-to-be hours before wedding after fight over saree
A man allegedly murdered his wife-to-be just 1 hour before the 2 were to get married. The crime happened at their home, where the couple had reportedly been staying together for more than 1 year. The 2 had been in a live-in relationship, despite opposition from their families. The woman's head was reportedly smashed against a wall, which led to her death on the spot, said officials.
New Delhi: In a shocking incident reported from Gujarat's Bhavnagar a woman was allegedly killed by her fiance. The murder happened just hours before the 2 were to get married. The marriage was scheduled for Saturday, but just an hour before that the bride was killed.
Argument over saree and money led to murder
The murder sent shockwaves across Tekri Chowk in the Prabhudas Lake area. According to a report in NDTV, the murder happened following an argument between the couple over a saree and some money.
According to the police, the victim, Soni Himmat Rathod and the accused, Sajan Baraiya were in a live-in relationship for the past 1 to 1.5 years. They were engaged and were set to get married on Saturday night.
However, just 1 hour before the wedding, an argument broke out between the couple over a saree and some money. In a fit of rage, Baraiya hit Rathod with an iron pipe. He however did not stop there, he also smashed the woman's head against the wall.
The accused then vandalised the entire house, probably in an attempt to make it look like a robbery, which might have led to the crime. He then fled, said police.
A senior police officer, RR Singhal was quoted as saying that the couple were living together despite opposition from their families. Saturday was going to be their wedding day, but an argument started between the couple. The police officer said that the man smashed the woman's head against the wall, killing her on the spot.
The police have sent the body for post mortem and have launched a manhunt for the accused. While a complaint of murder under relevant sections of the law has been lodged against the accused, he is also charged in another case regarding a fight with a neighbour. The police team said that the argument with the neighbour also happened on Saturday.
