HAL Dhruv-NG Takes Flight: Indias Indigenous Boost to Civil Aviation
India's indigenous helicopter programme reached a new milestone with the maiden flight of HALs Dhruv-NG, a next-generation civil helicopter. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the advanced light helicopter at HAL's Bengaluru facility, flagging off its inaugural flight.
This development underscores Indias commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign platforms and establish Indian manufacturing at global standards within the civil aviation sector.
Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the 5.5-tonne, twin-engine, multi-role helicopter is designed to excel in challenging Indian terrains while adhering to international civil aviation standards.
The Dhruv-NG prioritises enhanced safety, higher performance, and improved passenger comfort. It features twin Shakti 1H1C engines, a civil-certified glass cockpit, modern avionics, and advanced vibration control systems, positioning it as a cost-effective, high-tech alternative for VIP transport and medical evacuation, with a top speed of 285 kilometres per hour and a capacity for up to 14 passengers.
