India hits out at China over its remaks on Arunanchal Pradesh after womans detention
India has lodged a strong protest with Beijing following the alleged detention and harassment of an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh at Shanghai Pudong Airport. Pema Wangjam Thongdok, a resident of the United Kingdom, was reportedly held for hours by Chinese immigration officials on 21st November during a transit stop from London to Japan. She claims her Indian passport was deemed invalid because it listed Arunachal Pradesh as her place of birth.
Indias Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, asserted that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, a self-evident fact that denial by China will not change.
India highlighted that Chinas actions violate international air travel conventions and its own regulations permitting visa-free transit for up to 24 hours. China has refuted these allegations, stating that its immigration officials acted according to law.
