Indigo crisis: Whats crippling Indias largest air carrier | Explained

| Updated on: Dec 04, 2025 | 01:37 PM

The chaos sparked by IndiGo cancelling at least 150 flights on Wednesday spilled over on Thursday. The passengers from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other airports continue to face delays. Country's largest airline is currently grappling with significant operational disruptions.

The delays and cancellations by Indigo is mainly due to crew shortage, reportedly caused by stringent new crew rostering rules. Reports claim it is the shortage of crews that has resulted in the delay and cancellation of over 150 Indigo flights.

The new government regulations are aimed at combating pilot fatigue and increasing required rest periods. The new govt regulations have made maintaining flight rosters significantly more complex for Indigo. Interestingly, the new govt norms, that have resulted in delays, are aimed to make air travel safer for the passengers as well as for the crew.
