Justice Sought for Anjel Chakma: Dehradun Rallies Against Student Murder
A solemn candlelight march was organised in Dehradun by citizens and students to mourn the brutal killing of Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old student from Tripura. The protest underscored widespread public outrage over the tragic incident and raised significant concerns regarding safety, alleged racial motives, and reports of delayed First Information Report (FIR) registration.
Participants, including family members, friends, and local residents, united to demand immediate justice for Anjel. Speakers at the march called for the strictest possible action against those responsible for his murder, advocating for a thorough investigation into all culprits.
A prominent demand was the implementation of a specific anti-racism act, equipped with fast-track courts, to address and penalise discriminatory acts, particularly those targeting individuals from Indias North Eastern states.
The attendees also pressed for transparency in the ongoing investigation and appealed to the Uttarakhand government for a comprehensive and impartial probe into the circumstances surrounding Anjel Chakmas death.
