Karnataka Returns to Ballot Papers for Local Elections
Karnataka is set to revert to traditional ballot papers for its upcoming local body elections. The state cabinet has decided to scrap Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for Panchayat and urban local body polls, citing a decline in public trust in the technology.
Law Minister H.K. Patil announced the government's recommendation to the State Election Commission to use ballot papers instead. The government plans to amend the necessary rules within the next 15 days, making the change legally binding on the commission. This move marks a significant shift in electoral procedures for local elections in Karnataka.
