Siddaramaiah poised to become Karnataka's longest-serving CM, to break record of D Devaraj Urs

Siddaramaiah, who was previously in the Lok Dal and Janata Dal parties, joined the Congress in 2006 and handled various responsibilities. From being the leader of the opposition to the Chief Minister's chair, he is now running the government for the second time.

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is just one day away from becoming the longest-serving CM of the state. He will break the record of former CM D. Devaraj Urs tomorrow, who served in that post for 7 years and 239 days.

Siddaramaiah on the verge of breaking record

Siddaramaiah has also completed 7 years and 239 days today. In third place is S. Nijalingappa, who served as Chief Minister of Karnataka for 7 years and 175 days. Then in fourth place is Ramakrishna Hegde, who was the CM for 5 years and 216 days, and B.S. Yediyurappa, who was the CM for 5 years and 82 days, is in 5th place.

While Devaraj Urs was in power for seven and a half consecutive years, the Congress did not return to power in the state after Siddaramaiah completed his first term. The Congress formed a coalition government with the JDS due to the indecisive results of the 2018 Assembly elections. However, the Kumaraswamy-led government collapsed after just 14 months.

The return of Siddaramaiah

Later, Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai from the BJP came to power and became the Chief Ministers respectively. After that, Siddaramaiah took over as the Chief Minister again after the Congress won a clear majority in the 2023 elections.

Siddaramaiah, who was previously in the Lok Dal and Janata Dal parties, joined the Congress in 2006 and handled various responsibilities. From being the leader of the opposition to the Chief Minister's chair, he is now running the government for the second time. He has also set a record in presenting the state budget, having presented 16 budgets so far. Ramakrishna Hegde, who has presented a total of 13 budgets, is in second place.

As CM Siddaramaiah is writing a unique record, preparations are already underway for celebrations by his fans and supporters. Fans have put up posters congratulating Siddaramaiah on setting a record as the longest-serving CM near the Chief Minister's residence. A banner is being displayed near the circle in front of the Cauvery residence.
