Kalaburagi: With the power tussle over chief minister’s chair still going on in Karnataka, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday clarified that their there was no confusion at the level of the high command, but existed at the local level.
His clarification has come amid reports of a power tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. There have been reports of uneasy terms between the two top leaders in the state over the chair.
"The high command hasn't created any confusion. It exists at the local level. How is it right to blame the high command?" Kharge said while speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, news agency PTI reported.
The Congress President further urged the state leaders to take ownership of local level instead of blaming the high command. Kharge also asked party leaders not to claim credit for the win in the elections. He added, “Everyone has built the party. It's not any individual's effort. Congress has been built by party workers. Congress workers supported us.”
It may be noted here that the power struggle between two top leaders of the Karnataka Congress has resurfaced after almost two years. It was in 2023 that Congress came to power in the state. Soon after, Siddaramaiah was made chief minister for the second time. He had earlier served as the CM between 2023 to 2018.
It is believed that there was a 2.5 formula between the two leaders. While it was never officially confirmed, but its believed to be the point of contention between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. The Congress Government completed its half-term on November 20. In reference of the matter, Shivakumar had stated that the high command told them when they would be asked to visit Delhi to discuss the matter between the two.
