BJP picks VV Rajesh as Trivandrum Mayoral candidate, Asha Nath as Deputy Mayor

Thiruvananthapuram: VV Rajesh, the local BJP leader from the capital city set to be the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram as BJP state leadership picks Rajesh over other potential candidates including former DGP Sreelekha.
Asha Nath will be the Deputy Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram.

There were indications till this morning that Sreelekha would become the mayor, Subsequently, Rajesh’s name came under consideration after RSS leadership intervened. Meanwhile, central leadership had also proposed the name of VV Rajesh for the Mayoral candidate.
Just ahead of the announcement, in a post on X, BJP State chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar said he had met BJP national president J.P. Nadda and national working president Nitin Nabin to seek their guidance on organisational issues related to the party's Kerala unit.
The BJP secured control of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation with 50 seats, breaking a Left stronghold that had lasted for four decades. The Congress-led UDF also made significant gains by doubling its seat tally. In the three-cornered contest, Thiruvananthapuram ultimately swung in favour of the BJP.
