New Delhi: Several people were injured after a clash erupted between two Christmas carol groups in the Charummoodu–Nooranad area of Kerala’s Alappuzha district late on Christmas Eve, police said. The incident took place around 11.30 pm when a verbal dispute between the two groups escalated into a physical confrontation. The carol teams were allegedly led by members of two local youth clubs: Yuva and Liberty.
According to the police, the violence was rooted in a long-running internal rift within a youth organisation that had been active in the area for several years. Differences within the group had earlier led to a split, following which a faction formed a separate club named Liberty.
While some media reports claimed that women and children were also among those injured, police said all the injured had been taken to hospitals for treatment and their condition was not serious.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the clash, police added.
