Mananthavady: The Mananthavady police have registered a case against a doctor and a nurse of the Wayanad medical college over charges of medical negligence after a piece of cloth was allegedly left in the woman’s body following child birth.
As per the FIR, Dr Mounika and the duty nurses are booked under sections 125 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS). As per police, the staff’s were found negligent and the post-operative care of a pregnant woman resulting in the surgical cloth left inside the woman’s body.
After the woman experienced discomfort in her body, she alerted the nurses. However, the nurses did not heed to her concerns and avoided the complaint. However, she later revisited the hospital on October 23, 2025 with complaints of abdominal pain and uneasiness, but claimed that no proper diagnosis was provided. Shockingly, the cloth was removed from her body 75 days after the operation.
As per the complaint she delivered a baby at the hospital on October 20. The woman said that on December 29, a piece of cloth came out of her body after which she experienced relief. She produced the cloth before the expert panel during the hearing of the case.
"I need justice. My repeated complaints stating that cloth was stuck inside my body was ignored by the hospital staff”, she told the media after giving her statement.
Meanwhile, Wayanad DMO Ancy Paul told News9 that a 3-member inquiry panel has been formed and a report will be submitted to the health department in the next 3 weeks.
"I will submit the report to the DHS and the Directorate of medical education. I am not in a position to comment on the merit of the case at this point of time”, she said while speaking to News9.
Two months ago there was an incident where a guide wire was stuck inside the body of a woman while she had undergone treatment at the general hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
