Cyclone Senyar: Kerala along with TN, AP to receive heavy downpour; Mullaperiyar level rises to 140 ft
Three south districts of Kerala including Trivandrum, Kollam and Alappuzha is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in isolated places across the state till November 27.
Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala along with Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rains due to the impact of cyclone ‘Senyar’.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone’s wind speeds ranged from 70-80 kmph, gusting up to 90 kmph.
Three south districts of Kerala including Trivandrum, Kollam and Alappuzha is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in isolated places across the state till November 27.
The department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning during this period.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, as squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 45 kmph and gusts reaching up to 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the Kerala coast.
A yellow alert has been issued for three districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, north and central districts of Kerala experienced sunny and clear weather with no rains in any of these districts.
However, heavy rains were reported in Idukki district with water levels in Mullaperiyar dam rising to 140.20 feet.
The current tunnel discharge is 1200 cusecs while the inflow is 1937 cusecs. Total storage level at present is 7180 Mcft.
