Orange alert issued in Idukki, yellow alert issued in southern districts with moderate rain expected

An orange alert has been issued for Idukki district, with rainfall of 115.6-204.4 mm expected within 24 hours. Meanwhile, eight districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad — are placed under yellow alert. A yellow alert indicates a rainfall of 64.5-115.5 mm within 24 hours.

Idukki: Kerala is expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. With several parts of Kerala already receiving moderate to heavy rain since Wednesday morning, the rain is expected to continue accompanied by thunderstorm and lightening.

Northern parts of Kerala witnessed heavy rain on Wednesday accompanied by thunderstorms and lightening. Temperature in many small towns and villages dipped post evening.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that isolated places across the state are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds on Wednesday.

The IMD has also warned Sabarimala pilgrims to exercise caution as light rainfall is expected in Pampa, Nilakkal and Sannidhanam.

Meanwhile, a red alert has been sounded for four dams — Malankara, Kanhirapuzha, Meenkara and Walayar — as water levels continue to rise.
