New Delhi: A 22 feet long and 11 feet wide flag is reportedly to be raised on a 42-foot pole atop the 161-foot spire of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. It would be part of a five-day ceremony that will start on November 21 and conclude with flag hoisting on November 25. The flag, as reported by the temple authorities, will be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Ram Temple Trust has also reportedly increased the number of guests from 8,000 to 10,000 for the event. Further the flag of saffron colour will be adorned with the symbols of the sun, Om, and Kovidar tree. These, as described in the Valmiki Ramayana, will be inscribed on the flag to be hosted on the auspicious day of November 25.

Govind Dev Giri, treasurer, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust gave out much of the details surrounding the event. PM Narendra Modi reportedly has been formally invited by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to unfurl the flag. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will also be present as chief guests at the flag hoisting ceremony at the Ram temple, Giri reportedly claimed.

The trust’s construction-committee chairman, Nripendra Mishra said, “PM Modi used to say that he had not visited Ayodhya for 20 years, and the reason was that he had made up his mind that he would not step into Ayodhya until the construction of the Ram Mandir began,” Mishra said. He added that while the construction of the temple will be completed, some ancillary works will continue till 2026. This could include the construction of an auditorium and boundary wall.

“The ceremony will also include flag hoisting atop six other temples within the complex and the Sheshavatar Temple. They are Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Surya, Hanuman, Mata Bhagwati, and Mata Annapurna temples. The event marks the completion of the temple construction,” the officials further said.

Another important aspect of the ceremony that Giri highlighted was how it would be Ayodhya-centric. Reportedly the large part of the people participating in the ceremony would be from eastern Uttar Pradesh.

“The flag-pole will be based on a 360 degree rotating chamber (based on ball bearings). This will ensure that the flag sustains high wind velocity running up to 60km/ hour and there is no damage to the flag,” Anil Mishra, a member of the Trust further added. Acharyas from Ayodhya and Kashi will reportedly be performing the rituals.
