Kuldeep Sengar wont be released: Supreme Court pauses Delhi HCs order of suspending ex-MLAs sentence
The Supreme Court on Dec 29 stayed the Delhi High Court order suspending the sentence awarded to ex UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Delhi HC had also granted him bail during the pendency of his appeal against conviction in the Unnao rape case.
The order follows multiple protests across the nation against Delhi HC's order on ex-UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
Several pleas were filed before the apex court against the Delhi High Court verdict. The Delhi HC had suspended Sengar's sentence and released him on bail during the pendency of his appeal against conviction.
While passing the order, the CJO noted that Sengar cannot be released as he is convicted and sentenced in another case under s.304 Part 2. The order was passed in respect of two petitions, one filed by the CBI and another by advocates, challenging the Delhi HC's order.
Delhi HC had suspended Sengar’s sentence, noting that he had served over seven years. The court had also imposed conditions, including a bond of Rs 15 lakh.
