The upcoming Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament is poised to be a significant political event, marked by anticipated clashes between the ruling government and the opposition INDIA bloc. The session, beginning tomorrow, follows an all-party meeting chaired by Union Minister JP Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal. This meeting aimed to ensure smooth proceedings, but the INDIA bloc has already outlined its strategy to challenge the government on several critical issues.
A central point of contention will likely be Operation Sindoor, a matter expected to dominate parliamentary discussions. The opposition also intends to question the government on the Pahalgam terror attack, US President Donald Trumps controversial claims about brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, and the Air India 171 flight crash in Ahmedabad.
The Election Commissions ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, crucial for upcoming elections, is another area likely to spark heated debate.
Beyond these pressing concerns, the government plans to introduce several new bills. These include the National Sports Governance Bill, aimed at reforming the sports sector; a bill for the preservation of geo-heritage sites and geo-relics; a minerals development and amendment bill; and importantly, the Income Tax Bill of 2025.
The sheer volume and potential impact of these bills further contribute to the expectation of a highly active and potentially turbulent session. With rising political temperatures and strong opposition intentions, the Monsoon Session is set to be far from uneventful.
