New Delhi: A video from Mumbai is winning hearts online. A man helped a woman deliver a baby on the platform of Ram Mandir Railway Station. The incident happened on Tuesday night, reported Free Press Journal.
On Tuesday night at around 1 am, a woman passenger travelling in a local train went into labour. This prompted a bystander to step in and help her. The man assisted the woman in delivering the child right there on the platform, that too without any medical help.
The video of the incident soon went viral. The incident reminded many people of the character Rancho from the movie '3 Idiots', played by film actor Aamir Khan. Many people described the man as "Real life Rancho".
The entire incident was shared by a man Manjeet Dhillon on his Instagram handle. He described the sequence of events. According to Dhillon, the man noticed that a pregnant woman was in immense pain. In order to help her, he immediately pulled the train's emergency chain.
Dhillon wrote, "This man is truly brave — words aren’t enough to describe him. The baby was already halfway out — half inside and half outside. It truly felt like God had sent him there for a reason."
In the video shared online, the man who helped deliver the child admitted that this was the first time that he had done something like this. He admitted that he was really frightened at first, but said that "madam" (a doctor)helped him in delivering the baby successfully.
Eyewitnesses said that a female doctor helped the man, explaining the process of delivery via video call. He claimed that attempts to contact the medical emergency team failed.
The post said that the woman's family had earlier approached a nearby hospital for help but were turned away. They were then forced to return to the train. The post also criticised the hospital for not admitting the woman.
After the delivery, the woman and her child were successfully transported to a hospital. They were helped by other passengers and the Railway staff.
The man who helped the pregnant woman has been identified as Vikas Bhendre.
