New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the alleged kingpin of an illegal arms and ammunition trafficking network originating from Bihar and operating across several northern states.
The accused has been identified as Kamalkant Verma alias 'Uncle Ji', a resident of Patna in Bihar. He is the 11th person to be arrested in the case registered as RC-01/2025/NIA/PAT.
According to the NIA, Verma played a key role in the network, procuring ammunition illegally from gun houses in Haryana and other locations. The ammunition was then transported via Uttar Pradesh to Bihar and other parts of the country.
The arrest comes days after the NIA conducted searches at 23 locations across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana on December 4. During the raids, four accused, Ravi Ranjan, Shashi Prakash, Vijay Kalra and Kush Kalra were arrested, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was seized.
The agency said the arrest of Verma is a major step towards dismantling the illegal arms and ammunition supply chain in North India. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
