NRI’s Deadly Deception: Rupinder Kaur Murdered Over Matrimonial Betrayal
Rupinder Kaur Pandher, a 69-year-old woman from the US, travelled to Punjab, India, in search of companionship. She connected with 75-year-old UK-based NRI Charanjit Singh Grewal through an online matrimonial service. Their relationship took a dark turn when, on July 12th, Rupinder was brutally murdered.
She was bludgeoned with a baseball bat at the home of Charanjit's acquaintance, Sukhjeet Singh Sonu, a court typist. Her body was burned and disposed of in a drain. Initial reports suggested she had travelled to Canada, but two months later, police discovered her remains, revealing a shocking conspiracy.
Investigations revealed that Charanjit, already married, allegedly paid Sonu ₹50 lakh to kill Rupinder after she pressed him to marry her, fearing legal repercussions for rape and deception. The case serves as a stark warning about the potential dangers inherent in online matchmaking.
