PM Modi and Lula Discuss Trade Amid US Tariffs on India and Brazil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a telephone conversation to discuss trade relations following the United States' imposition of a 50% tariff on both India and Brazil.
The conversation, occurring amidst rising global trade tensions, centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation and defending multilateralism against the recently implemented unilateral trade barriers.
A statement from the Prime Ministers Office noted that PM Modi recalled their recent meeting in Brazil, where they agreed on a framework to enhance their bilateral relationship. President Lula emphasised the need for increased economic integration between India and Brazil, highlighting their status as the two most affected countries by the US tariffs. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of defending multilateralism and exploring further integration opportunities.
