PM Modi Highlights India-ASEAN Partnership as Pillar of Regional Stability and Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the 22nd ASEAN Summit, underscoring the India-ASEAN partnership as a fundamental pillar of regional stability and development.
During his address, PM Modi extended congratulations to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for hosting the event and welcomed Timor-Leste as ASEANs newest member. He also conveyed condolences regarding the passing of Thailand's Queen Mother.
PM Modi highlighted that India and ASEAN collectively represent nearly a quarter of the global population, bound by deep historical ties, shared values, and cultural exchanges. He reaffirmed ASEANs central role in India's Act East Policy and lauded the burgeoning India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as vital for global stability and sustainable development.
Looking ahead, 2026 was declared the "ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation Year," with future collaborations focusing on digital inclusion, food security, resilient supply chains, disaster response, and the blue economy.
