Power Shift At Tata Trusts: Mehli Mistry Exits After Trustees Vote Against Reappointment | Unmissable

| Updated on: Oct 29, 2025 | 08:06 AM

Mehli Mistry, a close confidant of Ratan Tata, is set to depart from the governing boards of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. His exit, effective today, 28th October, comes after a majority of trustees voted against his reappointment. Sources indicate that three out of six trustees opposed Mistry's renomination.

Among those against were Noel Tata, chairperson of Tata Trusts; Venu Srinivasan of TVS Group; and former defence secretary Vijay Singh. While Mistry received support from Darius Khambata, Pramit Jhaveri, and Jehangir H. C. Jehangir, these votes were insufficient to secure his continued tenure.

Mistry's departure concludes his formal association with these influential philanthropic institutions, which are considered key pillars of the Tata legacy. This development is unfolding amidst reports of internal divisions within the trusts, suggesting a deeper realignment within the powerful Tata Group structure.
