Punjab Kabaddi Promoter Rana Balachauria Shot Dead at Kabaddi match

| Updated on: Dec 16, 2025 | 07:59 AM

Kabaddi player and promoter Rana Balachauria has succumbed to injuries sustained after being shot during a kabaddi match in Mohali. This development marks a serious turn in the ongoing investigation.

Hours after the attack, the notorious Bambiha gang issued a social media statement claiming responsibility for Balachauria's death. The gang explicitly stated the attack was an act of revenge linked to the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. They alleged that Balachauria had provided support and shelter to individuals involved in Moosewalas killing.

The incident occurred approximately half an hour before singer Mankirt Aulakh was scheduled to arrive at the venue, highlighting significant security lapses at public sporting events. Punjab Police are actively verifying the authenticity of the Bambiha gang's claim and have intensified their investigation, with security measures being heightened across the region to prevent further violence and to probe gang links and motives.
