Rameswaram: The fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam will conclude today, December 30, with a ceremony near the Rameswaram bus stand. The event, inaugurated on December 2 by the Union Ministry of Education, is designed to celebrate and rejuvenate the deep-seated spiritual, cultural, and traditional ties between Tamil Nadu and Varanasi (Kashi).
The closing ceremony will be attended by dignitaries including Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
"Tamil a Symbol of National Integration": Pradhan at Kashi Tamil Sangamam Closing
Ahead of the event, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who arrived in Madurai on Saturday evening, emphasized the unifying role of the Tamil language. Speaking to reporters at the airport, he stated, "Tamil is the most ancient language of our culture and a symbol of national integration." He highlighted the growing scholarly exchange, noting that a large number of students from North India are learning Tamil, while many teachers from Tamil Nadu are teaching the language in the North.
When questioned about allegations that the Union government has withheld education funds from the Tamil Nadu government, Minister Pradhan shifted focus to language and policy. "Prime Minister Modi also shares the same view and celebrates the Tamil language," he said, citing the philosophical legacy of the Thirukkural. He expressed confidence that the Tamil Nadu government would eventually accept the New Education Policy (NEP), stating, "The people of Tamil Nadu have accepted the new education policy. The Tamil Nadu government will also accept it in a few days."
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam has served as a cultural bridge, fostering dialogue and exchange between two of India's most historic heartlands, reaffirming the shared heritage that underpins the nation's diversity.
