Chennai: The draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu, published today following a Special Intensive Revision, lists a total of 5,43,76,755 voters, according to State Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, IAS. The revision process has led to the removal of 97,37,831 names from the previous list.
The Election Commission's special revision drive, which commenced on November 4th across nine states and three union territories, concluded in Tamil Nadu on December 14th. Announcing the draft figures, CEO Patnaik provided a detailed breakdown: “The number of voters in Tamil Nadu as of October 27 was 6,41,14,587. The draft voter list released today after the Special Summary Revision contains 5,43,76,755 voters.”
The gender-wise composition of the draft roll includes 2,77,06,332 female voters, 2,66,63,233 male voters, and 7,191 transgender voters. Additionally, 4,19,355 voters have been registered as persons with disabilities.
Explaining the significant reduction in voter count, Patnaik clarified that the removals were part of a systematic clean up. The SSR process led to the deletion of 26,94,672 entries of deceased persons, 66,44,881 entries of individuals who have migrated out of their constituencies, and 3,39,278 duplicate entries.

The draft roll is now available for public scrutiny. Voters can verify their details online starting tomorrow or physically at their respective polling stations. For those whose names are missing or require corrections, the application process has been simplified. Eligible citizens can submit their claims and objections through their Booth Level Officer (BLO), Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), designated polling booth agents, or via the official online portal.
To further facilitate inclusion, the election department will conduct special camps at all polling booths over the next two weekends, where officials will be available to assist with new applications and necessary form submissions.
