Tamil Nadu weatherman hints at school holidays tomorrow due to heavy rains
The most significant part of the Tamil Nadu weatherman's forecast revolves around a new system expected to form around November 22. John stated that the formation of this next low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will be a key factor to watch.
Chennai: The Northeast Monsoon has intensified over Tamil Nadu, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall across the state on November 20, 21, and 22. Adding a layer of local insight, popular private weather blogger Pradeep John, known as the 'Tamil Nadu Weatherman,' has provided a detailed forecast, suggesting that the current wet spell could lead to school closures depending on the development of a new weather system.
Chennai Weather Forecast: "Fun-Filled" Rains with a Cautionary Note
In his latest analysis, Pradeep John noted that cloud formations are moving into northern Tamil Nadu districts, including the capital city of Chennai. He described the expected rainfall in parts of the city as potentially "fun-filled," but advised residents in North and Central Chennai to remain cautious. While he indicated that no "major rain" is expected immediately in Chennai, he predicted the city could receive around 20 to 40 mm of rainfall, with a possibility of moderate showers around midnight as the current low-pressure area shifts.
The Next Big System: A Low-Pressure Area Around November 22
The most significant part of the weatherman's forecast revolves around a new system expected to form around November 22. John stated that the formation of this next low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will be a key factor to watch. He directly linked this system to the potential for more widespread disruption, hinting that "depending on the heavy rain, schools and colleges are likely to be closed." This has sparked anticipation among students and parents for possible rain holidays in the coming days.
Tamil Nadu Rains: Southern Districts on Alert for Heavy Downpour
While Chennai may see intermittent showers, the weatherman's analysis places southern Tamil Nadu on higher alert. He specified that the movement of the current low-pressure area will draw humidity inland, leading to heavy rains in several southern districts. Areas including Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Theni, Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli are expected to receive significant rainfall, with a special mention of the Manjolai Hills area being at risk of very heavy downpours.
