Telangana Assembly winter session begins; KCR makes a brief appearance
The government is expected to introduce and pass several ordinances in both the Assembly and the Legislative Council including the merger of municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits into GHMC, increasing the number of wards from 150 to 300 due to the expansion of GHMC's jurisdiction
Hyderabad: The winter session of Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council began on December 29, 2025 and is expected to heat up as Congress and BRS are set to debate on several issues.
The government is expected to introduce and pass several ordinances in both the Assembly and the Legislative Council including the merger of municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits into GHMC, increasing the number of wards from 150 to 300 due to the expansion of GHMC's jurisdiction, removal of the two-child norm in local body elections, Telangana GST amendment, two ordinances related to employee rationalization and salary structure revision, Panchayat Raj Act amendment, and gazette publication ordinances related to Panchayat Raj and rural development.
Discussions on the Krishna and Godavari river water is expected, primarily on the Krishna river water and discussions regarding allocations for the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project will be held, reports said.
Former CM KCR attends Assembly:
Former CM and BRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao made a brief appearance at the Assembly and met several BRS MLAs and MLCs. CM Revanth Reddy, many government ministers, MLAs also met KCR in Assembly hall. Later, KCR left the Assembly along with Harish Rao and went to his residence in Nandi Nagar.

Meanwhile, former sarpanches attempted to surround the Assembly demanding payment of pending bills. They were taken into custody by the police. A three-tier security system has been put in place around the Assembly premises. Security arrangements are being overseen by approximately one thousand personnel.
House to be adjourned for three days on Monday:
It is understood that sessions are not being held on December 30th (Vaikuntha Ekadashi), December 31st (the last day of the year), and January 1st (the first day of the new year). After the adjournment of both houses on Monday, Business Advisory Committee meetings will be held in both houses to decide on the duration of the sessions.
