New Delhi: A seven-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by a woman in a residential society in Surat, Gujarat. The accused, identified as Apeksha Ritvik Vaishnav, allegedly attacked the child after he rang her doorbell and ran away as part of a prank.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which shows the woman dragging and thrashing the minor.
The incident reportedly took place between 9 pm and 10 pm at Silicon Residency Society. The child, identified as Devansh, was playing with his friends in the society when he rang a neighbour’s doorbell as a prank. Enraged, the woman allegedly grabbed Devansh, slammed him to the ground, and dragged him towards the parking area.
The footage shows the child crying in pain as the woman pulls him by his arm. Even as he tries to resist and clings to a pillar, she continues to assault him. Eventually, the child falls to the ground and cries helplessly while his friends witness the disturbing episode.
Devansh’s father said he decided to lodge a police complaint after watching the CCTV footage.“I was not aware of what had happened at the time. When I went downstairs around 10 pm, other children told me that my son had been beaten. I saw injury marks on his cheek and his eye was swollen,” he said. The family lodged a complaint at the Sarathana police station the next morning.
Devansh’s father further alleged that when he confronted the woman, she warned that she would beat the child again if he repeated the act. The family demanded justice for their child, claiming their faith in the law and justice system of India.
The Sarathana police recorded a video statement of the accused, in which Apeksha admitted her actions.
“My name is Apeksha Ritvik Vaishnav. A boy from the building, Devansh, would ring my doorbell late at night and run away. He did this six to seven times. When it happened again, I waited near the door and saw him. I asked him his father’s name, but he said he didn’t know. I slapped him two or three times. It was my mistake, and I accept it. No one should make such a mistake,” the police quoted her as saying.
