New Delhi: In another case of violence against women, two brothers allegedly gang-raped a 15-year-old girl in Odisha. The girl reportedly became five months pregnant, after which the perpetrators tried to bury her alive. The incident took place in the Jagatsinghpur district in the state.
The two brothers, identified as Panchanan Das and Bhagyadhar Das, are residents of Banashbara village and have been arrested by the police. There is a third suspect named Tulu who is still missing. The authorities have launched an extensive manhunt to nab him.
The police have said that the accused raped the girl several times for a considerable period. After she became pregnant, they tried to bury her alive. Also, they reportedly offered to facilitate an abortion for which they were willing to pay.
They called the girl to a location. When she arrived, the girl saw a ditch which they had dug up. She was threatened that if she didn't get the abortion, she would be buried alive in the ditch.
Fortunately, she managed to flee and told her father about the ordeal. She underwent a medical examination at the District Headquarters Hospital, and her father filed a formal complaint to the Kujang Police Station, following which a case was registered. The police are currently probing the incident.
On Tuesday, in Jagatsinghpur, a minor was allegedly kidnapped and raped by two men. On Sunday, three men kidnapped a minor girl and gang-raped her. She managed to escape, but then a truck driver raped her. Notably, crimes against women have been rising alarmingly in Odisha in recent times.
