Tehri: In a tragic incident, five people lost their lives after the bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Kunjapuri-Hindolakhal in the Narendra Nagar area of Tehri on Monday. A total of 28 passengers were on board when the accident took place, officials said.
As per reports, all passengers in the bus were from Gujarat and were on their way to Kunjapuri temple when the accident took place. The police and administration teams have reached the spot after receiving the information and have started the rescue operation.
The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. As per reports, the driver of the bus lost control near Kunjapuri-Hindolakhal, after which the vehicle plunged directly into a 70-meter-deep ravine. Five SDRF teams are present at the scene.
According to Tehri District Magistrate Nikita Khandelwal, “All necessary steps are being taken and the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The police have started probing the incident to find out the cause of the tragedy. The SDRF teams are also on the scene, carrying out rescue operations.”
"There were a total of 18 people on board the bus. Five have died, while 13 others were injured. Three of the injured passengers have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh, and 10 have been sent to Narendra Nagar Hospital for treatment, "Tehri CMO Shyam Vijay, however, added.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the accident. Sharing a message on X, he wrote," The news of the bus accident near the Kunjapuri temple in Narendra Nagar, Tehri, is extremely saddening. I pray to God to grant the departed souls a place in His feet and the bereaved families the strength to bear this immense loss. The district administration and SDRF are sending the injured to the nearest hospital, and the seriously injured have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. I am in constant contact with local officials regarding this matter. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured."
