The weather in Uttarakhand remains dry but severe cold and dense fog are disrupting normal life. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, while frost in the mountains is causing temperatures to drop further.
Dehradun: Uttarakhand is facing harsh winter conditions with dense fog in the plains and frost in the mountainous regions. On Thursday, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for dense to very dense fog in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
A cold wave warning has also been issued for these districts, forcing schools and Anganwadi centers to remain closed for the day.
Fog and frost disrupt life
Dense fog has reduced visibility in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and parts of Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, and Dehradun. This has affected road traffic and daily activities. In the mountains, frost in the morning and evening has intensified the cold, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures.
On Wednesday, Dehradun witnessed light mist in the morning. However, bright sunshine in the afternoon brought some relief from the biting cold. Despite this, the mercury continues to fluctuate, making life difficult for residents.
Light rain and snowfall are likely in Uttarkashi
According to the Meteorological Center, the weather will remain dry across all districts today. However, a fresh western disturbance is expected to become active from Friday. As a result, light rain and snowfall are likely in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, while other districts will remain dry.
Officials have warned that frost will continue in the mountainous regions, while dense fog will persist in the plains. This combination of fog and cold wave is expected to disrupt normal life further.
Schools and Anganwadi centers closed for the day
With the orange alert in place, the district administrations of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar have declared schools and Anganwadi centers closed for the day. Traffic police have also advised drivers to use fog lights and drive cautiously.
Evenings and mornings remain extremely cold
In Dehradun and nearby areas, residents are relying on sunshine during the day for relief, but evenings and mornings remain extremely cold. Farmers in the hills are also worried about frost affecting their crops.
The Meteorological Department has warned of further changes in weather from Friday, with chances of rain and snowfall in higher regions. For now, residents must brace themselves for more cold days ahead.
