Jaipur: Army-Day parade to be held outside cantonment area, Bhairav Battalion, URLs, MAPPS among many firsts

The Bhairav Battalion will participate in this year's parade. This will mark the first public appearance of the Battalion, which has been raised by the Army under its recent restructuring initiative. This restructuring was carried out after recent global conflicts and also after analysing the lessons learnt post Operation Sindoor.

New Delhi: The Indian Army Day parade in Jaipur will be held for the first time outside the cantonment area. A news agency reported that the parade this year is scheduled to be held at Mahal Road in Jagatpura. There will also be certain new additions to the parade, including the display of drones and new weapons and vehicles of the Army.

The Bhairav Battalion will participate in this year's parade. This will mark the first public appearance of the Battalion, which has been raised by the Army under its recent restructuring initiative. This restructuring was carried out after recent global conflicts and also after analysing the lessons learnt post Operation Sindoor.

The Bhairav Battalion is placed between the Para Special Forces and the regular infantry forces. The battalion is aimed at providing quick and modern warfare techniques and such fighting skills which can help to tackle modern warfare equipment. This unit has been built in a manner that they are able to respond quickly and also provide their services across different terrains.

News agencies quoted an officer as saying, "Modern warfare is changing at a very rapid pace. The conflicts of today are hybrid in nature and one needs to be fully equipped with modern technology to be able to deal with the challenges. The Bhairav Battalions have also been created as part of the focus restructuring, which has been raised in line with the requirements of modern technology, new thought processes and the new operational requirements."

Display of weapons, Army equipment

The parade will also see the display of Army weapons and equipment. There will be missile launchers, rockets and artillery on display at the parade. One of the missiles which will make it to the parade, is the BrahMos cruise missile. This missile is capable of hitting targets which are 800 kilometres away from land, sea or underwater platforms.

Apart from the BrahMos, there will also be the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher. The testing of this equipment was carried out recently. This rocket has a range of 120 kilometres. Apart from this, the parade will also feature, an upgraded BM-21 Grad multi-barrel rocket launcher and the SMERCH system. This system can fire 12 rockets of 300 mm calibre to up to 90 kilometres.

The artillery platform such as the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System and the M77 ultra-light howitzer will also be on display. Other gun systems will also be put on display during this year's Army Day parade in Jaipur.

Apart from this  the Universal Rocket Launcher Systems (URLS) , the solar-powered MAPSS unmanned aerial vehicle system will also be displayed during the parade. Apart from this robo dogs, which formally known as robo mules will also be back at the parade. 

The Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15. This day General KM Cariappa took over the command of the Indian Army from General FRR Bucher in 1949. Bucher was the last British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. Cariappa thus became the first commander in chief of the Indian Army.
