New Delhi: The AC local trains have become popular in West Bengal as they have enabled people to journey from one place to another comfortably. Hence, those trains have become a huge hit on the Sealdah-Ranaghat route.
Now, AC local trains will also run on the Bandel route of the Howrah branch. Notably, Eastern Railway's General Manager, Milind Deuskar, has announced such a possibility, who also said that five more new AC trains are being brought in. The board is happy to see the success of the AC local trains of the Sealdah division.
Currently, AC trains operate on two routes: Sealdah-Kalyani and Sealdah-Krishnanagar. According to railway data, the number of passengers on these two routes is gradually increasing. Deuskar said that a survey is underway between Howrah and Bandel. The decision to run AC local trains on that route will be taken after examining all aspects.
Sealdah Division has informed that the AC local trains on the Krishnanagar-Ranaghat-Kalyani route have achieved remarkable success. The General Manager said that the Eastern Railway is going to get five new AC local trains due to the significant increase in passengers. Hence, a new AC local train has started to ply its trade on the Sealdah-Kalyani route from Thursday.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to run AC local trains on Sundays as well. For now, a train on that day will be run on a trial basis. Sealdah Division DRM Rajiv Saxena has said that the number of passengers travelling on AC local trains is much higher than what the railways had estimated. He said that more than 150 per cent of the tickets of AC local tickets have been sold on the Sealdah-Kalyani-Ranaghat route in particular. On the other hand, AC local tickets on the Krishnanagar-Sealdah route have sold more than 90 per cent.
