Kolkata: The ruling TMC government in West Bengal has been struck with a considerable blow ahead of the 2026 state Assembly elections. The party's Bharatpur MLA and one of its key Muslim faces, Humayun Kabir, has announced that he will launch a new political party after August 15 this year. TV9 Bangla has reported the news.

Humayun has said he will launch the party due to grievances against the district TMC leadership. He has clarified that he has no anger against party supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and will field candidates in 50 seats in Malda, Murshidabad, Dinajpur, and Nadia. The announcement has created a massive flutter in Bengal's political arena and now, prominent BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has weighed in.

Humayun Kabir, a former Congress member, also contested the Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the BJP. Now, he has announced the formation of a new party. Regarding Humayun's announcement, Dilip Ghosh said on Thursday, "No one has ever been able to hold him back. He has been to all the parties in West Bengal. So there is a need to form a new party."

Dilip added, "What I feel is that the dialogues he used to give so far were not only his wish, but also what Trinamool wanted. The way the situation in West Bengal is going, it would not be surprising if a Muslim becomes the Deputy Chief Minister after the 2026 state election."

He also commented, "The talk of the ISF or the new party is because there is a situation where Muslims can win 100 seats. They will claim that they want a Deputy Chief Minister. Next time, they will say that we will support whoever becomes the Chief Minister from a Muslim. They are moving towards that situation in a planned manner."

Dilip stated that West Bengal is moving towards becoming the second Bangladesh, and said, "The Leftists built the road. Mamata Banerjee is driving along that road. The situation before Partition is being recreated in the state. Mamata Banerjee knows everything."

When asked if the BJP will benefit from the division of votes, Dilip said, "We do not believe in any division. We believe in the development of all. This is the slogan we gave. We conduct politics by the Indian Constitution. This is how BJP will run."
