Would Touch Me…’: Shocking video reveals prolonged assault of Himachal student by professor before death
A disturbing video has surfaced in which a college student is seen alleging prolonged sexual and mental harassment by a professor before her death. The case has triggered widespread outrage, with police launching an investigation and authorities examining video evidence, medical records, and witness statements as multiple agencies step in.
New Delhi: A disturbing video of a 19-year-old woman has surfaced in which she is seen narrating her ordeal. The woman died on December 26 after allegedly being ragged by three senior students and sexually assaulted by a college professor in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala.
Following the incident, Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Ratan said that all allegations are being thoroughly investigated. "Medical records, video evidence, and statements of all concerned are being examined,” PTI reported. The accused professor has denied all allegations against him, while reports claim that several teachers have come out in his support.
Police have registered a complaint based on a statement by the woman’s father, who alleged that his daughter was assaulted by three senior students—Harshita, Aakriti, and Komolika. He further alleged that a college professor, Ashok Kumar, subjected her to "obscene acts,” the report said. The student reportedly fell ill following the attack and repeated mental and sexual harassment. Her health deteriorated over time, and she died on December 26 in Ludhiana, police said.
Indecent acts, mental harassments..
In the video, the woman accuses the professor of indecent acts, mental harassment, and intimidation after she objected to his behaviour. However, the authenticity of the video is yet to be confirmed.
When questioned about the professor’s identity, the student named Ashok Kumar and alleged that he would repeatedly trouble her and ask her to do strange things, making her uncomfortable. She appeared hesitant when asked to describe the nature of the acts and refused to speak without her father present in the room.
She said, "Touch wagerah karte the. Bahut kuch bolte the” (He would touch me and say many things).
Considering the gravity of the allegations, police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 3(5) (common intention). Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of) Ragging Act, 2009 has also been invoked.
Is the incident linked to a past event?
Initial investigations suggest that the deceased student was enrolled in the college in 2024 and faced ragging by some students. She reportedly failed her first-year examination, according to PTI.
Following the declaration of results in July 2025, the student stopped attending college. Her name was subsequently removed from the college rolls on August 21, 2025.
In an attempt to secure re-admission, she is believed to have visited the college again in September. She was reportedly informed that she could be admitted to the second year only if she cleared the re-evaluation; otherwise, she would have to re-enrol in the first year.
UGC takes action
The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday said it has taken serious note of the Dharamshala college student’s death and has decided to constitute a fact-finding committee. Emphasising that "student safety is paramount,” the UGC said those responsible would face strict action.
"Culprits will not be spared, and stringent action will follow,” UGC officials said.
