New Delhi: In a significant development in the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg's death, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two of his personal security officers (PSOs), identified as Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya. The arrests come over allegations of financial irregularities. Reports say that the CID initiated a probe after receiving complaints of serious monetary mismanagement involving the duo.
With this, the total number of arrests linked to Zubeen Garg’s death probe comes to six, as investigators continue to trace the financial and circumstantial links surrounding the case.
Both officers were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court today, where the SIT sought 14-day custody for further interrogation. Following the arrest, both the PSOs were produced before the CJM court Kamrup Metro and court handed over them 5 days SIT custody.
Upon carrying out a detailed investigation, the SIT found out substantial evidence which includes large-scale financial transactions linked to the two PSOs. Preliminary findings suggest that around Rs 70 lakh was transferred through Nandeshwar Bora’s account, while approximately Rs 40 lakh was transferred through Paresh Baishya’s account — allegedly involving funds belonging to the singer.
So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg. They are identified as Shymkanu Mahanta, the event organisor, Manager Sidhartha Sharma, Bandmate Sekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, Zubeen's cousin and suspended APS officer Sandipan Garg, along with the two PSO officers.
Zubeen Garg, 52, one of Assam’s most renowned singers, died on September 19 under suspicious circumstances in Singapore. He reportedly went to the city-state to perform at the North East India Festival, which was later cancelled following his death.
Garg was cremated with full state honours in Assam’s Kamrup district on September 23, with lakhs of fans turning up to bid him a final farewell. Although the initial reports claimed that the singer died in a scuba diving incident, his wife, Garima, said he suffered a seizure while swimming, dismissing claims of a scuba diving mishap.
