New Delhi: Many come up with their set of ways to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) - from drinking beer to drinking cranberry juice - but every possibility comes with its set of health risks that may occur. And now, a viral TikTok hack to treat UTIs is under the radar for the possibility of resulting in severe health problems in the long run, ranging from hypertension to seizures. According to doctors, this remedy would also not work to ease the symptoms. A popular remedy for the treatment of UTIs is washing down a teaspoon of baking soda with six ounces of water. It is said that it can treat UTIs within 30 minutes.

How does baking soda help with UTI treatment?

According to some people, the same remedy can also help with kidney infections and get rid of the burning sensation from the inside out. However, in case of UTIs and other infections that take a toll on the kidneys, bladder, and tubes connected to it, the symptoms can be different. These can together cause burning sensations while urinating and even strong-smelling urine. But when one resorts to baking soda for treating a UTI or for personal hygiene purposes, it could make matters worse for many.

Doctors say that trouble begins when people fall back on remedies that are not medically approved. And when one drinks too much water with baking soda in it, it does not work to relieve symptoms.
